He would never have gotten the courage to leave without Hal. His family was probably thinking more about their own pain at losing him, rather than what was truly best for him. Sometimes another perspective really helps!
I love the ocean. And having grown up in Oregon, I can say that while there are plenty of rain and wind storms at the coast, there are rarely lightning storms!
